The Mason’s Arms overlooks the Winster Valley in the Lake District. Dusk is falling fast and the mist rises and falls amid the valley floor.
A dog-fox barks, a pheasant pushes itself into the air with a crow and I can smell wood smoke from the fire in the bar. This is one of the nicest pubs in Cumbria. But all of this quiet English heaven is only made complete by the pint in my hand.
